| The garden at the Eastside Cafe overflows with vegetables,
herbs and flowers. Literally. When our third-of-an-acre
vegetable garden became too small to contain all of the produce
we wanted to grow, we began to rip out our landscaping and
replaced it with food crops; we tore down fences and built
raised beds that creep right up to our parking lot; we even
started growing vining crops up our east-facing exterior walls. And
in the spring of 2009, we got our first 10 chickens. They
happily kick up mulch in their chicken-run gobbling up insects
and veggie treats from the garden and provide us with gorgeous
green, blue, brown and white yard eggs. Come wander through
our garden on your next visit. |
